Subtraction Statement Sums

In statement sum we are given a statement. We have to analyse the statement and then take appropriate action.

Following steps are required to solve the statement

1. Read the statement carefully

2. Find the values that are given

3. Find the quantity which is required

4. Then perform the process to reach the desired result.

Let us consider the following example;

There were 927 books in the library. If 325 books were lost. How many books were left in the library?

1. We will first analyse the statement

2. We will find the values that are given

In the question it is given that

There were 927 books in the library. If 325 books were lost.

So, Total number of books in library = 927

No. of books lost are = 325

3. We will find the quantity which is required

In the question it is asked that

How many books were left in the library?

To find number of books left

We will perform subtraction as we are supposed to find the no. of toffees left

927 - 325 = ?

We will perform the required operation

As we have to subtract 325 from 927 we will perform the following steps

Step 1: Subtract the ones first.

7 ones - 5 ones = 2 ones.

Step 2: Subtract the tens

2 tens - 2 tens = 0 tens

Step 3 : Now subtract the hundreds

9 hundred - 3 hundred = 6 hundred

Hence the answer is 602

Hence number of books left in the library are 602.
